SFM launches new station in Siliguri

MUMBAI: After SFM's Pune launch in July this year, parent company Sun TV Network Ltd announced the launch of its new station in Siliguri on 28 October.

The station – on air on 93.5 MHz -- will be youthful and have a local flavour, said SFM project head Nisha Narayanan told Radioandmusic.com. "The focus will be on regional content. We will be playing a lot of Bengali, Nepali and Hindi music,... she said. Considering that a majority of the people living in the region speak Bengali or Nepali, guess this decision was a no-brainer.

SFM plans to create an aware about the station by way of outdoor campaigns and contests by giving away gold and silver coins. S FM has been practising this marketing strategy in most of their launches. So, does it make for a good marketing strategy? According to Narayanan, it works since gold and silver coins are considered auspicious....

With SFM's Siliguri launch, the operational FM Stations of Sun TV goes up to 43. The company holds licences for 45 FM radio stations across India, and will be one of the largest radio broadcasters of India when the remaining two stations (Aizawl and Gangtok) become operational.
