Saregama, Radio Misty pay tribute to Ameen Sayani

MUMBAI: Music label Saregama and Radio Misty are paying a tribute to veteran broadcaster Ameen Sayani by celebrating this week with 'Geetmala Ki Chhaon mein' on Radio Misty 94.3 FM (Siliguri) and Radio Misty 95 (Sikkim)

'Geetmala Ki Chhaon mein', to be aired from 16 to 20 March, takes up from a compilation album of the same name ideated by Ameen Sayani. The album was released by Saregama on the eve of Republic Day this year. The purpose was to recreate the magic of Sayani's hugely popular weekly show 'Binaca Geetmala' that aired top Bollywood songs during 1952-1994. However, for Geetmala Ki Chhaon mein, the veteran broadcaster has picked up songs which missed the limelight by a whisker. "I went half mad doing the shortlisting. I had to think of a lot of angles" Sayani said, in an earlier interview with Radioandmusic.com.

"Sayani became a household name with his signature 'behno aur bhaiyo' catchphrase in musical programmes like 'Geetmala", says Radio Misty Chief Executive Officer Nishant Mittal. "It's a proud moment for us to celebrate Ameen Sayani week, where listeners can hear the master voice of this legendary broadcaster. Ameen ji is the most popular name on radio and we are happy that geetmala ki chhaon mein will be on air at radio mistys Siliguri and Sikkim stations."

Saregama India Limited Manager Gautam Bose (Publishing and New media - East) say's, "The album is courtesy to the non-stop requests that listeners have been making - the magic returns with Geetmala ki Chhahon mein. Saregama and Radio Misty is proud to celebrate a week with Aapka Radio Dost Ameen Sayani, the first world fame RJ, India has ever produced.
