Saregama puts 'Sarhadein' on back burner

MUMBAI: Sarhadein, a collaborative album between Indian and Pakistan based artistes conceived by Saregama India has been put on a back burner for the moment owing to the tragic turn of events.

The album proposed to have artistes from across the border teaming with the Indian artistes. However, with Ghulam Ali cancelling his trip to India, beginning last Saturday, the fate of the album is now in limbo.

According to sources, Pakistan's Farida Khanum, Abida Perveen and Ghulam Ali where chosen for the project. India's nightingale Lata Mangeshkar was scheduled to sing a duet with Ghulam Ali in the album. However, Saregama India vice president Atul Churamani however said, "I would not like to reveal the names of any artistes."

Work on the album is believed to have started in September this year. "Owing to the present scenario, we need to review some things. At present, we don't have any launch date for the album in mind," said Churamani.

Ghulam Ali, who returned to India after a long time this year, launched 'Generations' under the Big music label with Asha Bhosle (after a gap of 25 years) in Mumbai in October. The album was composed by the maestro's son Aamir Ali and was almost three years in the making. Thereafter, Ghulam Ali went ahead with a string of solo and collaborative concerts with artistes like Pt Ajay Pohankar and son Abhijit Pohankar drawing packed houses. He was also slated to perform at The Rajgir Mahotsava in Bihar last weekend. After the recent developments, ghazal singer Talat Aziz has been asked to perform in place of Ghulam Ali at the festival.
