Saregama launches Lata Mangeshkar`s Sanskrit album

Mumbai: Saregama launched the legendary artiste Lata Mangeshkar`s album "Sumiran" on 11 May. It was unveiled by the Chairman of The RPG Group Harsh Goenka.

The album is in Sanskrit language and was conceived long time back. It has 23 popular Sanksrit sholkas, which offer prayers to Lords like Vishnu, Shiva, Ganesha, Krishna, Rama and Goddesses like Lakshmi, Saraswati and Parvati.

The music for the album has been composed by her brother Hridaynath Mangeshkar.

"I don`t think Sanskrit is difficult. I have read Sanskrit. It`s like any other language be it Tamil, Telugu, Urdu or Bengali," said the veteran singer.``

After hearing the album Sangeet Martand Pandit Jasraj said "I have been listening to Lata`s voice for a long time. Every time I heard her I found myself asking Who is She? Whose voice is this? And I found my heart answering "I am Saraswati". When Goddess Saraswati sings herself, it is only Saraswati who can sing. Lataji has come to this world to impart language, melody, music & knowledge"."The best thing about this album is that it can`t be remixed," added Lata Mangeshkar.
