Saregama appoints Gaana co-founder Avinash Mudaliar as head of Internet products and services

MUMBAI: Music label Saregama has appointed Gaana co-founder Avinash Mudaliar as Saregama Internet products and services head.

Mudaliar will be responsible for the all of brand's product initiatives on the web and mobile responsible for driving Youtube business. He will report to Saregama MD Surya Mantha.

Mudaliar said, “Last month, I moved out from the Gaana. I wanted to explore new areas in music business.”

Speaking about his appointment with Saregama he said, "I'm deeply honored to be associated with Saregama. I will be carrying on building this label that holds a legacy of more than 100 years. I aspire to bring a unique combination of web and mobile product expertise, tech knowledge and passion for music to Saregama.”

For past 15 years, he has handled product, technology, content and business development in various media including print, radio, television and the Internet. This also spans heading of numerous portals, editorship at different levels, heading of various properties across platforms and verticals.

Before joining Saregama, he was the head and co-founder of Gaana.com. He conceptualised, developed and grew Gaana to its current position as one of the top music destinations in India today, both on the web and mobile. He was also VP and head of Indiatimes.com which under his watch grew significantly over the last five years. He joined Times Internet Limited in September 2008 as the VP, creative and  content head for Indiatimes.

Prior to his stint at the Times Group, he was with Web18, the Internet and Mobile arm of Network18 where he developed and launched www.in.com, an aggregation based horizontal portal. Before that he was the cluster programming head for Radio Mirchi in Bangalore. He was also the COO and editor in chief of Rave Magazine. His earlier stints with the internet include being a partner of Microsoft's Bhashaindia Indic language computing initiative and BPL's Oyeindia.com.
