Saregama: After strengthening digital; we will acquire more music rights

MUMBAI: In order to expand content globally, digital is a far stronger space in any business especially music. This space has by far been successful in spreading music of different region and language. Music major Saregama aims to spread its catalogue around the world backed with 360 degree solution on the digital platform.

“Now, we are not aiming for any region. We will focus all over the world as with digital there is no barrier,” said Saregama CFO GB Aayeer told Radioandmusic.com

Saregama India, MD Surya Mantha said, “We have tied-up with operators in Africa, Middle East and South-East Asia. We make music constantly available in world-wide. Digital market is global. The content area and focus area is concerned Hindi is very important.” Mantha added, “Saregama is putting its energy and resources to be the undisputed audio and video company in India, at least on the digital front.”

Both stressed that they want to be confident of the fact on the way their use their rich catalogue.

For last two years, it has been building a team to strengthen them in digital space. We have three teams-content, publishing and technology team.

Aayeer said, “Last year, we had most of our revenue through digital. We are the significant player in the digital space and plan to build that even more.”

With the growing presence in various digital formats like CRBT, online stores and music streaming sight, Saregama have been representing their content directly or by partners. Mantha said “Now, we are looking at partners locally and international for mobile apps, mobile radio and so on. We are building technology capability to create platforms for the handset manufacturers that can run their stores whether it is a download store or streaming store. We are also building video quality as video are essential. We will be building direct consumers and application services in Saregama.com. We will be present at any digital touch point.”

He further added, “Our primary focus will be to building our digital channels and products. We first want to build the capability that we are marketing and monetizing this catalogue to the degree we should. Unless, we don’t achieve that we will take time to acquire new content.”

Saregama has already acquired rights of three Tamil movies- Thillu Mullu, Sutta Kathai and Nalanum Nandhiniyum; and two Hindi movies- Issaq and Nasha.
