Sanjeevani launches poetical compilation 'Meera and Me' on EMI

MUMBAI: Reminiscing the musical contribution of saint poet Meerabai, renowned singer Sanjeevani Bhelande has launched a poetical compilation 'Meera and Me' on EMI Music.

The album enlists 11 tracks that blend Indian instruments like sarangi, ravanhatta, baasuri, duff, tabla with the western drums, guitars, keyflute and piano. The singer has also composed tracks for the album.

Bhelande believes that Meera's 'magan bhaav' (equanimity) is the key to happiness. Hence the first track is about singing one's 'inner song'. "Meera and Me salutes every woman who shines and navigates her way to reach her goal. Sanjeevani wants every girl to be able to express herself without inhibition, the way Meera did. Every girl who pursues her dream with hard-work, talent and intelligence should be able to do so without being conscious of her gender. That's what Meera achieved as an artist, spiritual seeker and as a woman," Bhelande said.

Speaking about the album, eminent lyricist Gulzar said, "Sanjeevani's identification with Meera is phenomenal. Singing Meera, she transcends into Meera. I wonder if I should seek her blessings or bless her for this spiritual effort.

Commenting on the work, well-known playback singer Suresh Wadkar said, "Sanjeevani has a riyaazi voice. I have always found her singing very tuneful, sweet and expressive. I pray for the world-wide success of Meera and me."

Bhelande shot to fame by winning the popular music contest Saregama in1995. She is the first ever winner of a music reality contest in the history of Indian TV and the first to get a playback singing break from TV. Apart from having lent her voice for Hindi films like Kareeb (Anu Malik) , Nayak (A R Rahman), Kya dilne kaha (Nikamma kiya- Himesh Reshamaiyya), Socha Na Tha ( Yara rab russ janede), Road and Rules pyar ka superhit formula (Sandesh Shandilya),  Bhelande  has rendered songs in several languages like Marathi, Nepali, Bengali, Oriya, Bhojpuri, Punjabi, Rajasthani, Telugu,Gujarati and Assamese. She has also performed over a 1000 live concerts world-wide with her band 'Saanjh Sanjeevani' singing tracks from the golden era.
