Mumbai: South Asia Multimedia Technologies (SAMTL) has picked up a 6.98 per cent stake in South Asia FM Ltd (SAFL), a subsidiary of Sun TV.

Sun TV Network continues to hold 64.12 per cent stake in SAFL, it says.

In August 2007, SAFL acquired 48.9 per cent stake in Red FM to bolster its FM Radio broadcasting reach. Sun TV has started radio station operations under the SFM brand, through SAFL across the country. The total number of FM radio stations operating under parent of Sun TV network last year was 18, the cities under their FM umbrella are Chennai, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli, Visakhapatnam, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Bhubaneswar, Tirupati, Madurai, Tuticorin, Lucknow, Bhopal, Puducherry, Kozhikode, Indore, Varanasi and Vijayawada.

In early December, its brand S FM began broadcasting from Kozhikode and Vijayawada through Sun TV subsidiary Kal Radio Ltd.
