Sagarika adds glamour to Marathi music

MUMBAI: Music label Sagarika, identified thus far with Vaishali Samant's Aika Dajiba and Avadhoot Gupte's Meri Madhubala, is treading a different path.

In a bid to bring some glamour and glitz into the otherwise plaic Marathi music industry, Sagarika has organised a live concert with an artiste signed on its roster - Swapnil Bandodkar.

The concert, to be held in Pune on 23 March, will be aired on Star's new Marathi channel Star Pravaah.

All 2500 tickets for the show have been sold out, according to Sagarika Music president Sagarika Bam, who has conceptualised the event. Speaking to Radioandmusic.com about the venture, Bam says, "Since we are into music production, and have our own label as well, we felt it would be a nice combination."

The concert gives the listeners an opportunity to watch Swapnil Bandodkar perform for three hours at a stretch. " Swapnil has never performed his entire repertoire at one go, though he has shared the stage with other artistes on various projects before, this is the first time he would be in a spotlight for three hours at a stretch" she says. Upcoming singer Jaanvee Prabhu Arora would be joining him for this concert.

As for the label's choice of Swapnil Bandodkar, she says, " He is quite popular among the youth and the older generation alike. Also, he offers a lot of variety, for the concert he would be singing classical, pop, natya sangeet and even rock." The concert has been divided into various segments like Introduction section, Radio section, classical section and Retro Section. The show will be anchored by Pushkar Shrotri and Atisha Naik.

The concert will also feature dance performances by well known artistes like Madhura Velankar, Urmila kanetakar, Pushkar Jog and Mrunmai Deshpande. "An auditorium with a capacity of 2500 audience is full, I couldn't get passes even for my close freinds- it's sold out," says an enthused Bam.

Future Plans

The label plans more of such concerts, Bam says. "To start off, we would be doing these concerts with aristes who are signed to the Sagarika label. We also plan to take the show to cities like Aurangabad and Kolhapur. Our next artiste is  Vaishali Samant," she said.
