Sagar Desai experiments with single singer in "Straight"

MUMBAI: Parvati Balgopalan's forthcoming film's music is likely to set a record of sorts. All the songs in the film have been sung by a single vocalist, Suraj Jagan.

The heavily 'non mainstream' music that marks this film is the creation of Sagar Desai, the 32-year-old music composer who has composed four songs for Straight. Desai is known by his earlier work in movies such as Dil Kabbadi, Mixed Doubles, Bheja Fry, Siddharth- The Prisoner and Mithya.

Desai, who describes Straight's music as more of a 'band album', says that a single singer taking on all the songs of a film has never been done before in Indian cinema. He says he found composing the music for the movie challenging but despite that he is happy that everything has fallen into place at a comfortable pace.

Desai says that the background score in the movie - Run Run... - has been composed by Louis Banks. The movie stars Vinay Pathak, Gul Panag, Anuj Choudhury, Siddharth Makkar, Rasik Dave, Ketaki Dave and Achla Sachdev is all set to release in theatres on 20 March.

Desai's future projects include Rajat Kapur's Rectangular Love Story, Mocktail and Aparna Sen's Japanese Wife for which he has composed the music. He is very excited about a track from Japanese Wife in which he has recorded with a Koto player from Japan.

The young music director is also part of his own band, Zambezi and is waiting eagerly with fellow band member for the release of their first album.

Vinay Pathak who plays the role of Pinu, the protagonist in Straight... describes the music composed by Sagar as fresh, well integrated with the story and vital for the movie.
