ROCKFORT 2010: Demonic Resurrection: The demons of metal

Avani Bheda hooked up with Sahil Makheeja, lead guitarist of top Indian heavy metal band Demonic Resurrection, which will perform live at RockFort 2010 in Bandra on Sunday, the 26th of December in heavy- and death-metal frenzy. Excerpts.

What are your plans for RockFort 2010?

This time at Rockfort 2010 we plan to perform some of our more obscure songs that we don't play during most gigs. We also have a surprise with a few guests to close the show.

How does it feel being one of the most prominent metal bands from India?

It feels great, we have worked really hard for 10 years and it is really nice that it is paying off and people think of us.

Compress the 10 years in  a thumb-nail sketch.

Considering the band has a 10 year history it is impossible to keep it short but we are one of India's oldest metal bands that are still active and we have a numerous albums released and have toured the country extensively as well as internationally. We also are signed to a UK record company called Candlelight Records for worldwide release of our music.

The lyrical contents of Demonic Resurrection often deal with fantasy. From where do you draw inspiration for lyrics?

It is mostly stuff created from my brain but I'm highly inspired by movies and books like Lord of the Rings, The Matrix, etc.

How would you say you have progressed musically since you started out?

There has been a huge change, as musicians we've grown and improved our skills and that has shown in the sound over the years. Also the change of members has lent itself for the better to the growth in the sound of the band.

Tell us something about the Global Metal' award?

It is an honour for us to have won that award and represent Indian Metal. It is an award sponsored by Sonisphere Festival and we were selected from many different bands from across the world and it is a very prestigious award by the one of the world's most respected magazines for metal. We couldn't be happier.
