Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announces nominees

MUMBAI: The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation has announced the list of nominees for induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2013. The exhaustive list of 15 artists and bands from various fields of music include rock and hip hop legends like Deep Purple, Rush, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, NWA (Niggaz With Attitude) and Public Enemy.

Also nominated are Paul Butterfield Blues Band, The Marvelettes, The Meters, Randy Newman, Donna Summer, Albert King, Heart, Chic, Procol Harum and Kraftwerk, report has said.

To be eligible for nomination, an individual artist or band must have released its first single or album at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination. The 2013 Nominees had to release their first recording no later than 1987.

Ballots will be sent to an international voting body of more than 600 artists, historians and members of the music industry. This will be the first time fans can vote for the nominees. Inductees will be announced in early December.

“ The definition of ‘rock and roll’ means different things to different people, but as broad as the classifications may be, they all share a common love of the music,” Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, president and CEO ,Joel Peresman said.

The 28th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held in Los Angeles at the Nokia Theatre on 18 April, 2013.
