Rob McLennan presides radio jury at Cannes Lions 2012

MUMBAI: The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity has announced Rob McLennan as its Radio Lions jury president this year.

McLennan is the executive creative director at Net#work BBDO South Africa. Winning a multitude of awards over the years, McLennan has been responsible for many memorable campaigns including Dulux 'Any Colour you can Think of', Axe 'Get a Girlfriend', Virgin Atlantic 'Plain Insanity' and Mercedes-Benz 'Accident Avoidance'. Net#work BBDO has won three of South Africa’s six Cannes Lions Grands Prix, including two Radio Grands Prix (2009 and 2001), with McLennan amassing a collection of 35 Lions.

Commenting on his appointment Rob McLennan said, "It's an honour for both myself and for South Africa to be chosen to chair the Radio jury at the Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity. Radio is an important medium in South Africa and we’ve done pretty well in this category, so I’m really looking forward to work with the world’s leading creatives and find the freshest work for one of our oldest mediums."

Besides Radio, Cannes Lions has also announced presidents for the Design and Film Craft categories at this year’s festival. Bruce Duckworth, creative director at Turner Duckworth, UK will lead this year's Design Lions jury and Ivan Zacharias director at Stink, UK  will chair the Film Craft Lions jury.

Cannes Lions chairman Terry Savage said, "Being asked to preside over a jury in Cannes is an honour but it can also be a challenging task, leading a jury through a mass of global entries to award the world’s best work and showcase it to thousands of creative minds. Rob, Ivan and Bruce have been chosen for their proven standing and achievements in the industry but also for their ability to successfully lead their juries in deciphering the 2012 winners. We look forward to welcoming them in Cannes."

The 59th Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity will take place from 17-23 June 2012 in Cannes, France.
