Rihanna named UK's most influential Popstar

MUMBAI: Becoming famous for her public appearances and music, R&B singer Rihanna has emerged as UK’s most influential Popstar, as per the ‘Pop Power List’ compiled by 4Music. The singer has beaten the likes of popular singers like Beyonce and Katy Perry.

Songstress Beyonce occupied the second place on the list, while boy band One Direction bagged the third spot. Katy Perry attained the fourth position, and pop sensation Justin Bieber rounded off the top five on the list.

Rihanna topped several categories, with her huge commercial success combined with a very strong engagement value. Dominance in the fan value standings lead to substantial assets. She easily topped the rankings for product endorsements with multiple advert appearances, perfume ranges, clothing ranges and also as the ambassador for a drinks company. Apart from that, she also achieved strong success in both singles and album sales, with multiple singles and albums populating the UK top 10 charts.

The 4music list was an analysis of the most famous pop artists’ social media activity, airplay and press coverage. It was further based on stats compiled by Media Measurement that considered social media reach, critical recognition, airplay, endorsements and media coverage of the 50 most powerful pop stars.

Another popular singer on the list included country singer Taylor Swift on sixth, a huge jump from her 65th position last year. Huge media coverage centering on her brief romance with One Direction’s Harry Styles, as well as other popular stories helped her garner plenty of media attention in 2013.

Last year’s winner was Adele who fell back to secure a place amongst the top 10 this year. Despite winning one Brit Award and one Grammy, she couldn’t retain the title of the most influential music star in UK.
