Response to pop quiz book positive: Verus Ferreira

MUMBAI: The response to the first of its kind pop music quiz book has been positive. Author and columnist, Verus Ferreira has said, “The Great Music Quiz Book (Better Yourself Books) launched nationwide in December 2012 has almost sold out its first 1,000 copies of its first print and publishers are planning a reprint.

“We are surprised at the response to the book and my publishers have been supportive. My publisher, which is basically into Christian literature, was taking a risk by agreeing to put the book out. I’m happy that the response has been good,” Ferreira told Radioandmusic.com.

Writing a book on pop music was a long-standing dream for Ferreira and he took two-years to compile over 900 questions. The book is divided in 23 chapters with 17 comprising main quiz material covering international pop, rock and Bollywood-Indian cinema. A chapter has also covered lesser known genre like Behop, RnB, and the Blues with a chapter on Jazz.

The book also has 17 pictures including the international artists like Michael Jackson, which should attract music lovers.

“Where my book stands out is in its holistic content of a big industry. Most books on music have pictorials, biographies or ‘How to’ material. Then there is the Internet where you can get loads of information on music and artists. The quiz book can (however) be used to test one’s pop music knowledge with friends over a cup of tea and snacks. It’s fun,” he pointed out.

The deal that Ferreira signed with ‘Better Yourself’ is similar to that of an artist with a label- an advance and royalty based on sales.

Encouraged by the success of his first effort, Ferreira is contemplating on working on another book- this time on international music legends like Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, The Who, Deep Purple and Heavy Metal genre.

“I’d first want to complete the reprinting deal with my publishers and then consider the idea for another book. It’s good to see a positive fruition of my dream,” he added.
