Regional music rules 59th National Film Awards

MUMBAI: Regional films in Bengali and Marathi have bagged major awards in the music category at the 59th National Film Awards announced today in New Delhi.

Best Music Director award was bagged by Neel Dutt for the Bengali film ‘Ranjana Ami Ar Ashbona’ and Best Background Score was won by Mayookh Bhaumik once again for a Bengali film ‘Laptop’.

The Best Male Playback Singer award was bagged by Anand Bhate for the Marathi film ‘Balgandharva’, while Roopa Ganguly won the Best Female Playback Singer for the Bengali film ‘Abosheyshey’. Amitabh Bhattacharya won the Best Lyrics for ‘Agar Zindagi’ (I Am).

The Best Audiography awards were bagged by Hindi films, Baylon Fonseca bagged two honours for Best Location Sound Recordist (Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara) and Best Sound Designer (Game), while Hitendra Ghosh won Best Re-recordist of the final mixed track (Game).

In the non-feature film category, Dhruba Jyoti Phukan won the Best Music Director for ‘Panchakki’ while Best Audiography was bagged by Gautam Nair for ‘1,2’.

The winners of the awards were announced by chairpersons of the jury including thespian Rohini Hatthangady for feature films and filmmaker Ramesh Sharma for Non-Feature films. The awards will be given to the winners in a ceremony on 3 May.
