Red FM campaigns Bharat Ratna for Sachin

MUMBAI: Red FM launched an interactive campaign, 'President Sahiba Suniye' to award Sachin Tendulkar with the Bharat Ratna.

The campaign 'President Sahiba Suniye' voiced the opinion of those listeners who believe that the maestro's 21 glorious years of cricketing excellence, deserves to be duly recognized, the campaign was on from 8 to 24 April.

According to Constitutional experts the present guidelines state that the Bharat Ratna can only be given for outstanding contribution in the fields of art, literature, science and social service. To confer the Bharat Ratna to the God of Cricket the rules will have to be modified to include outstanding contribution in sports.

President Sahiba Suniye campaign highlighted the popular opinion of Delhites giving listeners the chance to vocalize their opinions on the issue. The station also circulated a letter in the form of a petition, getting thousands of Delhites to sign up. People from all quarters ranging from sports personalities, journalists and ex-Bharat Ratna awardees have supported the cause.

Red FM RJs were actively involved in the on-ground signature campaign. The President Sahiba Suniye campaign gained popularity on social media networks with more than a thousand likes on its Facebook page already.

Commenting on the campaign Red FM senior VP-projects and programming Nisha Narayanan said, Sachin is India's most revered and beloved icon. This campaign is a manifestation of the wishes of the people of India, who want their hero to get the highest civilian honor. We know that conferring the Bharat Ratna on Sachin would require that rules be modified first, but being the station for expression' we are giving listeners the opportunity to express themselves on a topic that they feel strongly about. We hope that the Sports Ministry tables a proposal soon before the Government of India and heeds the wishes of millions of Indians across the country....

The on-air campaign was accompanied by on-ground signature campaign at various touch points like colleges, major bus stops, market places, etc with more than 5000 people pledging their support through the signature campaign.
