Real Image's Carnatic music concert film – Marghazi Raagam preview in Bangalore

BANGALORE: A preview of Marghazi Raagam, claimed to be the world's first Carnatic music concert made for cinema, will be screened at Bangalore on Monday evening.

The film, produced by Real image and Aaghal films has already been previewed at Chennai on 19 December 2008. Marghazi Raagam has been conceived and directed by Real Image's Jayendra Panchapakesan.

The 4K digital 5.1 surround sound presentation starts with a dedication to audiologist H Shridhar and has performances by reputed artistes Bombay Jayashree and T M Krishna. P C Sreeram is the cinematographer. Margazhi Raagam has been shot with seven high resolution RED digital cameras in a studio and is as close to a real live performance as one can get. The film is to be released in the DVD and blu-Ray format.

The Tamil month Marghazi or the Hindu calendar month Margasish roughly coincides with the Gregorian calendar month of December. The Tamil word Raagam, equivalent to the Hindi word Raaga refers to melodic modes in Indian classical music. A raga is a series of five or more musical modes upon which a melody is founded.

The trailor screening of this concert will be held in Mumbai on 30 December 2008.
