RDB goes patriotic with 9XM; to launch studio in Mumbai

MUMBAI: UK based urban Bhangra group Rhythm Dhol Bass (RDB) is all set to focus on India in 2013 with a host of projects, including the launch of their own recording studio in Mumbai. To commemorate India's 64th Republic Day, the band has created a special track for bollywood music channel 9XM.

Being largely based out of UK, the band's music is mostly a blend of  western genres with traditional Punjabi beats and vocals that are a huge rage amongst the youth. Their bollywood projects like Aloo Chat and Singh is Kinng earned widespread acclaim.

Living up to the tag further, the band has around five bollywood projects in its kitty slated to release in 2013. This year will also see them composing the entire soundtrack of a film for the first time. The untitled film is being directed by Sabbir Khan and will go on floors soon.

RDB claims that they have started work on the tracks which will not encompass their traditional style. They aim to collaborate with Indian artistes and composers for the tracks which will be a mix of soft ballads, dance and Punjabi numbers.

Speaking with Radioandmusic.com, RDB member Surjeet Ral said, "This is the first time we are officially directing the music for a bollywood project. We are really excited and look forward to it. We have met up with a few Indian artistes already and will surely rope them in to work on this project."

Apart from that, the band also has several singles lined up with Nindy Kaur and Raftaar for release. Also known for their international collaborations, the brothers have recently collaborated with a renowned commercial hip-hop artiste to develop a party anthem. Aimed towards the youth who enjoy spending money, the music video will be shot in Miami within the next few days.

They have also roped in a popular female artiste from North America for one of their bollywood projects.

He commented, "International collaborations are our biggest forte and now its time for another one. We have shot one with a famous hip-hop artiste which is a party anthem with a slight twist. The music video will be shot soon. Apart from that, we have around three more collaborations in the pipeline with one for our bollywood projects. So it is going to be very exciting for us ahead."

With several bollywood offers on their platter, the band now aims to also set up their own recording studio in Mumbai to make their own music for films easily. The work for the same is set to commence in February.

"We are very soon going to set up our own recording studio in Mumbai so that we can make more music in India. We want to set up a base here and will start work on the same by February," he revealed.

They will also be performing some concerts for college and university events across the country, with the first slated to be held in Delhi in the next few days and in Pune on 28 January. These will be followed by shows in Dubai, Karachi and Mumbai in the coming months.

The band has also recently collaborated with the music channel 9XM to create a special version of the track 'Yeh Desh Hai Veer Jawano Ka', which will air exclusively on 26 January. The track comprises of Punjabi elements making it a patriotic yet celebratory number, with vocals by Manjeet and UK based Punjabi singer Nindy Kaur.

Also aiming to touch upon the recent Delhi gang rape issue, Manjeet and Surjeet's father penned some lines to incorporate in the track which were rendered by Kaur.

Ral stated, "9XM approached us to remake the classic number sung by Rafi.

Though we had a lot of tracks to choose from, we choose this for its catchy tune to give it the RDB touch. We added some Punjabi elements like dhol and the vocals were by Mann. We wanted to add some more flavour into it and also wanted to touch upon a little on the recent Delhi issue. So our father, who usually pens our tracks, wrote some lyrics which we fused into the track."

Capturing the freedom of India with its upbeat tempo, the remake of the song is highly influenced by Indian music giving the band a perfect opportunity to showcase a different side to their Indian fans. The track, from the RDB label Three Records, is in collaboration with 9XM and record label Saregama.

Speaking of the initiative 9X Media Group senior VP and content head Amar Tidke said, "Be it the A Capella version of Maa Tujhe Salam or the Ganesh special collaboration with Taufiq Quershi, 9XM has always introduced the viewers with innovation in music. And for this Republic Day we have collaborated with RDB to present a unique rendition of the popular freedom song Yeh Desh Hai Veer Jawano Ka. Created in true 9XM and RDB style the song accurately captures the current sentiment of the youth."
