Ranbir to play Kishore Kumar in biopic

MUMBAI: Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor is all set to play the role of legendary playback singer and actor Kishore Kumar in his next film. The biopic of the stalwart singer, which goes on floors in the later part of 2013, will be directed by Anurag Basu, who Ranbir had recently worked with for the commercially and critically successful ‘Barfi.’

Basu, who is extensively researching for the film told Radioandmusic.com that Kapoor has been finalized for the role, but the script has not been locked. “It’s too early to give details but Ranbir will be playing the role of Kishore (Kumar). We haven’t finalized the script or the title of the film. We currently have a working script- Kishore," Basu confirmed.

He said Kapoor, who had sung for the promo of Barfi, will not be attempting to sing in the Kishore Kumar project. “No, Ranbir will not be singing in the film. I don’t think anyone can match Kishore Kumar’s voice. We haven’t really thought about who among today’s playback singers will be singing in the film. We are at scripting stage and selecting a playback singer for the film is still secondary,” he stated.

Basu is reportedly being helped by Kumar’s son, Amit Kumar on the research and script to capture the legendary singer’s life
