Raja Hassan to perform in Rahman's Jai Ho concert

MUMBAI: If there's one man who everybody in the music industry wants to work with - it's  A R Rahman. Singer Raja Hassan who shot into the limelight through Zee's music talent hunt Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge in 2007 has got an oppurtunity to perform with the Academy award winning music director at a charity concert at Corporation Stadium in Kozhikode, Kerala, on 3 May 2009.

The concert will generate funds for HIV positive orphan children and is the first leg of Rahman's much anticipated 'Jai Ho India' tour.

Raja clarifies, "It's not for any film - it's a 'mankabat' which he wanted me to sing for the performance. The name of the song is 'sir ata'". In his blog, Hassan has expressed how he got the offer of working with Rahman. Hassan wrote, "It's because of a Muslim priest, who has been a strong support to Rahman sir's family from a long time, in whom Rahman sir believes the most and respects the most had recommended me to Rahman sir to record a song with me - that's the reason that Rahman sir had personally called me."

The reality show singer was touched by the simplicity of Rahman, and further wrote on his blog, "That day his mother had cooked for us, and Rahman sir had accompanied us and had food along with all of us sitting on the floor along with Rahman sir and having food with him was literally like a dream come true for me, I salute him for his simplicity and down to earth nature, Rahman sir rocks…...Jai ho... to Rahman sir."

Corporation stadium, the venue for the event is a football stadium where fans upto 50,000 from all over the country and overseas are expected to witness the event. According to sources, many Rahman fans would be flying for the one day event and special chartered flights have been booked for the same. The concert will take-off like international concerts where the listeners will watch the entire ensemble perform in centre of the stadium.

On being asked if he was also going to be a part of the Jai Ho international tour, he said, "I would not know about that, but I am performing for the Kerala concert. It will be great if I can be a part of that as well."
