MUMBAI: All India Radio FM Rainbow Bangalore has started airing a new show ‘Eyeway Yeh Hai Roshni Ka Karawan’, a programme for the visually impaired.
The show which hit the airwaves on 12 August, will be aired every Wednesday for 15 minutes at 9.30 pm and the language for dissemination will be Hindi. Apart from Bangalore, the show is aired in another eight cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Jallandhar, Kanpur, Lucknow, Cuttack and Hyderabad.
The capsule hosted by film and theatre personality Tom Alter, will feature inspiring life stories of visually impaired achievers from India and overseas. It will also feature important aspects of life such as education, career opportunities, technology, legal rights, parenting, etc. The show will be on air for 14 weeks.
The radio show is produced by Score Foundation as a part of Project Eyeway. Project Eyeway programme manager Pranay Gadodia said, "We have roped in Tom Alter to increase the programme’s appeal and do hope even the general public would learn about the challenges faced by visually challenged persons in their daily lives."
Conceived and produced by visually impaired people, the show is on air since November 2005. The first year, it was aired from six cities, and next year onwards it started reaching 30 cities through AIR's Vividh Bharati channel. The show can also be heard anytime on the website www.eyeway.org. In February 2008, it was chosen as the best programme under the Social Initiatives category during the Radio Duniya Awards function held in Delhi.
