Rahman, Gulzar grace film fest 'Cinema 100'

MUMBAI: Celebrating the glorious years of Indian Cinema, three-day film festival ‘Cinema 100’ witnessed a grand opening with the presence of music maestro AR Rahman and noted lyricist Gulzar at the Whistling Woods International campus.

The Oscar winner inaugurated the fest in the presence of industry stalwarts like Subhash Ghai, Saroj Khan and Sukhwinder Singh. The ceremony was followed by a short film which gave a glimpse of the various phases of Indian cinema.

Speaking at the inauguration, Rahman said, “I am so thrilled to be here. Whistling Woods International has been an inspiration to me. I am looking forward to see the exhibition on 100 years of cinema. I can see a glorious future for the students of filmmaking and I wish them all the very best.”

While Gulzar took this opportunity to share experiences of his poetic journey in Indian film industry, the fest also featured Sukhwinder Singh’s performance on Sufi songs ranging from 1950s to the current era. The fest further hosted a special screening of Raja Harishchandra & Harishchandrachi Factory, based on the life of Shri Dada Saheb Phalke.

The fest celebrated Indian Cinema and its various facets through numerous workshops and chat sessions with Industry stalwarts.  The festival consisted of film screenings, workshops on acting, photography, cinematography, dance, poetry, music, 3D film making, VFX, screenplay writing, as well as marketing of films and much more.

Industry stalwarts who graced the occasion include Randhir Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Kiran Shantaram, Rinki Roy Bhattacharya (Bimal Roy's daughter), Rakeysh Mehra, Arjun Kapoor, Parineeti Chopra, Amole Gupte, Zoya Akhtar, Ketan Anand, Govind Nihilani, CK Muralidharan, Rajeev Masand, Rohit Shetty, R. Balki, Habib Faisal, Khalid Mohammed, Sangeeta Shankar, Dhanush, Rohit Roy, Ronit Roy, Isha Sharvani, Hema Malini,  Anu Malik and many more visiting the festival.
