Radiowalla walks on the path of success

MUMBAI: Internet and mobile radio have been two platforms witnessing a steady growth in the age of digital expansion. With music being more frequently consumed across these platforms, the few internet radio players in the space including Radiowalla, are now seeing their success stories being written in various aspects.

Amongst the first milestones for the company is a nomination in the Internet category at the TiE50 (The Indus Entrepreneurs) Awards Program which is TiE Silicon Valley’s premier annual awards program keenly contested by thousands of technology startups worldwide.

It has a global network of 54 chapters located in major North American, Asian and European countries and cities with more than 14,000 members across 13 countries. Participating technology startups benefit from a vast ecosystem of venture capitalists, angels, entrepreneurs, significant investor exposure, online virtual showcasing and technology and business partnering/networking.

Radiowalla is amongst the three Indian companies nominated in different verticals for the program. Apart from them, streaming service Dhingana and mobile solutions company Telibrahma have attained nominations in the Mobile category. The awards will be held on 18 May at the Santa Clara Convention Center in California.

Speaking with Radioandmusic.com, Radiowalla co-founder and CEO Anil Srivatsa said, “It is a great opportunity for us as somebody is recognizing us on a large platform. We will be showcasing a presentation that will help us meet entrepreneurs and show visionaries our commitment and future course for the company.”

With the company attaining a large scale platform to showcase itself, their focus will be on forging business partnerships and collaborations along with fund-raising options for the long run.

Apart from that, a lot of organizational restructuring is also in the process, with Radiowalla recently hiring a marketing team to help in promotional activities in 2013. The company also appointed a new CEO Harpreet Singh who replaced Rajiv Bannerjee.

As per reports, Bannerjee was asked to put in his papers and Singh was appointed as the new chief executive officer with effect from 1 February.

The move comes as the company aims to move forward and expand its product portfolio with the launch of new channels and packs. They have recently unveiled a special Punjabi pack of songs from the genre at Rs 70 per month, and have also unveiled a gym radio pack with curated tracks at a suited beat to accompany during workouts. Currently in the promotional dial, the pack will later be available for free as the team looks out for a sponsor for the same. They will also soon be launching a similar devotional pack priced between Rs 40-70 per month.

Also aiming to do more in the mobile space, they will soon launch a new app for BlackBerry 6 and 7 operating systems. Radiowalla is currently present on android and iOS devices.

“We have 33 channels and are constantly growing with newer packs and stations coming up and the returns are also pretty good. We are just about to launch the Christian radio station and have many more things on the anvil. Now with our marketing team in place, we will try to see how best we can push ourselves this year,” he added.

Even as the content keeps growing, Radiowalla has also worked on providing its users a unique and friendly experience by revamping its website and making it easier for them to get content. The network currently boasts of around 25,000 registered users.
