Radio stations gear up for Navratri 2012

MUMBAI: Celebrating ‘Navratri’ Utsav 2012, radio stations across India have sketched out  special plans to treat listeners with unique initiatives filled with musical offerings.

Radio Mirchi Mumbai is all set to instigate special program ‘Mirchi Musical Navras’ on its evening show Sunset Samosa aired from 5 – 9pm.

Commencing from 15 October, the show hosted by RJs Meera and Suren will offer a platter of 9 Rasas and its presence in contemporary Bollywood music. The show based on two core themes of festival - Music and dance will focus on a musical celebration of each rasa through all-time popular hits. It will also encompass musical instruments that lend to a particular rasas like  Shringaar, Karun, Vibhatsa, Krodh, Bhayanak Shanti, Hasya, Adbhut and Veer.

On its first day, the show will feature Shringaar rasa encompassing romantic melodies such as Tere Naina, Ishq Sufiyana, Pee Loon, Saibo and many more which will be followed by emotional voyage of separation and solitude tracks Jiyen Kyun, Tanha Dil, Maa in its Karuna rasa on second day. Songs like Sadda Haq, Aali Re and Teri Keh Ke Loonga will encapsulate the Vibhatsa, Krodha and Bhayanak rasas on 17 October whereas the soulful devotional Sufi tunes will be summarized into Shaanti rasa on the fourth day.

While on 19 and 22 October, the RJs will play tracks depicting Hasya rasa (fun or happy mood) like English Vinglish, Auntyji, Dreamum Wakeapum and It’s the time to disco, the Adbhut rasa will explore the element of awe or trepidation with songs that express wonder, astonishment on the 23 October. During the day of Dussehra, the show will be dedicated to the Veer rasa with tracks such as Chak De, Singham, Chale Chalo and Main Hoon Don dominating the music play-out.

The station will also offer listeners a chance to win multi-day passes to Naidu Club’s famous Dandiya Raas at Kora Kendra in Borivali and Shree Samarth Ekta Group’s Nirvana Navratri Mahotsav at Somaiya Grounds in Ghatkopar, by participating in an on-air contest.

Where, Radio Mirchi will be soaking its listeners into the Bollywood flavor of 9 Rasas, Radio City will bring back its popular Navratri contest, ‘Garba Premier League’ for its listeners in Ahmedabad. The contest will feature more than 20 residential societies in Ahmedabad competing with each other to win the ‘Garba Premier League’.

The station has also organized a similar ‘Dandiya Premier League’ in Mumbai which will span across thousands of housing societies who will compete against each other to claim the title of the best ‘Garba’ society. The station will award ‘best dressed couple’ and ‘best dancing couple’ crown to the winner every day while on the finale will be held on Dusshera. The finale will witness all the couples competing against each other and the top three societies will be shortlisted by the panel of judges along with Radio City. The winner of the concert will be announced at the end of the event.

In Chennai, Radio City will withhold the tradition of making ‘golu’ or the sacred doll during Navratriby organizing a ‘Golu festival’. The station will collect the dolls from various households in Chennai and will gathered it in a public spot as an exhibition.

Keeping the charm of Navratri intact, Red FM in association with Godrej Garden City has launched the third edition of its music compilation ‘Red Raas’ in Ahmedabad. The compilation has interwoven the modern life style of young generation with the traditional melodies of Navratri rendered by some of the most popular and talented voices.

The compilation has been penned by Tushar Shukla, Raish Maniyar, Vinay Dave, Shyamal-Saumil, Krushna Dave, Anil Chavada, Dr. Niraj Mehta and Naishadh Purani and is been sung by Aishwarya Majmudar, Shyamal Munshi, Saumil Munshi, Arti Munshi, Jay Chavda, Aman Lekhadia, Prasad Thaker and Niraj Pathak. The compilation will be played in various mandals during the fest.

It has been third consecutive year for Red FM that it has offered the musical compilation ‘Red Raas’.

Fever FM on other hand will complete the festive fervor by once again bringing back its property ‘Live Jagrataa’ in Delhi. Commencing from 16 October, the station will brings to its listeners a one-of-its kind ‘LIVE Jagrataa’ wherein the RJs will dutifully perform the jagrata by staying awake all night and the playlist will include devotional numbers like Mata ke bhajan and other navratra special songs.  On the last day of the nine day long festival, lucky Fever listeners along with a bhajan mandali will also get a chance to host a LIVE jagrata on-air from 1-5am.
