Radio One launches social initiative 'Music Healers'

MUMBAI:  Radio One Bengaluru has undertaken a social initiative for the senior citizens of the city. The radio station has launched ‘Music Healers’, an initiative to spread joy through music to the elderly population living in retirement homes across the city.

Music jockeys of the radio station will shortlist participants every week from the entries on-air, and accompany them to a congregation of the elderly. All volunteers would be conferred with the title Mh.D-Doctorate in Music Healing, which would make them certified Radio One Music Healers.

Radio One has partnered with The Dignity Foundation for the initiative. Former Lokayukta Justice Santhosh Hegde and playback singer Rajesh Krishnan inaugurated the initiative with elderly people at the foundation in Bengaluru. The launch was followed by a musical performance by Rajesh Krishnan.

Announcing the initiative, 94.3 Radio One station head Bangalore and national marketing head Shyju Varke said, “Music Healers are those who devote a couple of hours every month, spending time with the elderly singing songs with them, much like we used to in our nursery classes. No matter what age one is, everyone loves music and is touched by it. It is a communication far more powerful than words and far more efficient. The Dignity Foundation has been doing a wonderful job of providing emotional support to the elderly, and we feel privileged to be associating ourselves with them in this venture.”
