Radio One college champs contest gets underway in Bangalore

Bangalore: The Coca Cola Radio One College Champions contest completed its auditions in the eighth college in Bangalore - an all girls` college -Jyoti Nivas College (JNC). By the end of the week, the Bangalore run of the contest will culminate with auditions in the tenth college here.

The contest drew 43 couple entries, but only 10 couples took the stage for the preliminary rounds at JNC.

"JNC has given us the least number of actual participants. The largest number of participants were 28 from Seshadharipuram College," revealed Radio One Bangalore station head Shyju Varkey, while speaking with Radioandmusic.com.

"We have auditioned some really talented bunch of kids in Bangalore. In one of the colleges, I think all the six people who made it to the semi-final round would do well as RJs` for any radio station," added Varkey.

TV host Charu Sharma was one of the judges along with Varkey and Radio One Bangalore programming director Anjaan were the judges at the JNC contest.

The College Champions hunt, being conducted across colleges in Bangalore Chennai, Mumbai and Delhi is a talent hunt for the `Best College Presenters On Radio`. The Challenge is an interactive event that brings out the best amongst the participants and aims to select the best College presenters (a team of two) on radio through an Inter-College competition that has been planned as an annual live-on-air event.

Select colleges across India in each city were identified as centers for the auditions to take place. A large number of registered students across various colleges were then auditioned at the venue. A panel of celebrity judges after touring these colleges for auditions and finally select ten colleges comprising of a two-member team each across each city. The selected ten teams will then proceed to the next level of the competition, which would be conducted on-air from the studios of Radio One FM 94.3 in each city.
