Radio Mirchi pays tribute to Raj Kapoor

MUMBAI: Radio Mirchi’s retro show ‘Purani Jeans’ had organised special initiatives to commemorate the 24th death anniversary of legendary actor Raj Kapoor.

The station had organised screening of the actor’s iconic movie ‘Awara’ on 2 June at PVR Cinemas, Mumbai. Randhir Kapoor, Rajiv Kapoor, Yashpal Sharma, Amrita Rao, Gulshal Devaiah and Payal Rohatgi were present at the occasion amongst others. The audience welcomed the Kapoor brothers by humming the evergreen song ‘Awara Hoon’.

Speaking on the screening, Randhir and Rajeev Kapoor said, “Raj Kapoor is truly an evergreen legend. There is no actor like him today. Even after 60 years people watch and appreciate his films. Till the time people love him, he will always be with us. He is eternal for us. The movie ‘Awara’ was one of its kind. To reproduce the same magic on silver screen will be impossible.”

During the show, Rajeev Kapoor also shared special anecdotes about the legend who created ground-breaking movies, defined romance on celluloid, made millions swoon to his charm and dance to his steps. RJ Anmol further reminded the listeners of the golden era by playing melodious gems from Kapoor’s musical journey on-air for over three days.

After hosting ‘Purani Jeans Film Festival’, tribute to legends series and ‘Anmol Pahuncha Aapke Ghar’, the station also plans to pay homage to maestros of yesteryears in a special series titled ‘Agar Tum Na Hote’.  Prominent singers from the music fraternity like Shaan, Shreya Ghoshal, Swanand Kirkire and Shantanu Moitra will feature on the show and pay  musical tribute to their own idols from the Golden Era.
