Radio Mirchi goes live on-ground after fire at Delhi TV Tower

MUMBAI: As massive fire at Pitampura TV tower has disrupted the services of radio stations, every player is taking serious efforts to get back their transmission. Amongst others, Radio Mirchi has taken a unique initiative to air its shows live from multiple locations in the capital.

The station has changed the timings and will be on-air only from 11am to 9pm. The reason for this shift is the intense cold in the capital which would make it difficult for RJs to host shows on-ground. Speaking with Radioandmusic.com on the initiative, Radio Mirchi SVP Sachin Tagra said, “We believe that the show must go on, whatever the situation maybe. This is infact a good opportunity for listeners to interact with the RJs live and stay connected with us. Since our cable transmission wire got burnt in the fire, we are constantly trying to restore the services at the earliest. We have changed our show timings a bit due to the cold weather in the city and our confident that the listeners will engage and enjoy this step as well.”

Commencing from today at Metro Mall in Rohini, the RJs are conducting live shows involving listener interactions from the venue. The station will feature shows like ‘Midday Mohabbat’, ‘Lazy Lamhe’, ‘Sunset Samosa’ with Naved and the evening show with RJs Anant and Gaurav.

As the cable used in the transmission process was destroyed in the fire, the station is working 24/7 with help from Doordarshan to get their transmission back on-air at the earliest. Until then, they have resorted to the on-ground airing which will continue till tomorrow at EDM Mall in East Delhi.

Even as the cause of the fire is not determined yet, teams from Doordarshan are investigating the matter to understand the situation. Meanwhile, the transmission of All India Radio FM channels in the capital which was disrupted has been normalized. All India Radio director general LD Mandloi told Radioandmusic.com that two new transmitters which had begun functioning had helped in fully restoring the services of AIR FM Gold (106.4) and AIR Rainbow (102.6) channels. Radio City is back on PlanetRadiocity.com live ensuring listeners continue to enjoy the radio station uninterrupted.

AIR Sources said that Gyan Vani FM and the services of Red FM will be fully restored soon. As reported earlier, the fire broke out at 200 meter high television tower in Pitampura area of North - West Delhi on Saturday night. It was brought under control after about two hours with the help of fifteen fire tenders. However, the cables which connect the transmitters to the aerials were badly damaged affecting the transmission services.
