Radio Indigo brings jazz festival to Bangalore

BANGALORE: Black Dog Jazz series is presenting Radio Indigos Indigo & blues International jazz and blues festival in Bangalore on 1st and 2nd December this year.Radio Indigo Bangalore (RIB) intends to make this an annual festival on the lines of Montreux Jazz Festival and the Newport Jazz Festival.

Max Mueller Bhavan Bangalore is the cultural partner and will be bringing in the German jazz band Caf© du Sport. Caf© du Sport is reportedly the most acclaimed jazz band in Germany, which won the first prize in the Hennessy Jazz search in 2000 at the Cologne Philharmonic Hall, just a few months after it first started playing.

Bangalore last saw a major Jazz festival way back in 1991 with the ?‹?“Jazz Yatra . Among the other bands/groups that will play during the 2007 edition of the festival include Amit Henri Group, Gerard Machado Network, Junckt, Global Unity from Mumbai, Moon Arra, Barracuda Blues Band, the Kaya Quartet, Chronic Blues Band and the Matt Littlewood trio from Auroville, Pondicherry. Guitarist Bob Bonastre from France will perform with Konarak Reddy as a duo. During the press conference for announcing the festival, Reddy performed a solo number on the guitar ?“ ?‹?“Deviant Goddess as a pointer for the kind of music to expect at the festival. RIB intends to promote the festival on air, through outdoor hoardings and press advertisements, as well as on the web. RIB head-events, artists and repertoire M R Jagdish expects around 1500 people for both the days of which about 150 would probably purchase Tickets for ?‹?“the Longue (daily) with complimentary drinks at Rs.1,100 each. The prices for the other tickets are Rs 550 Regular (daily) each and Rs 775 Season Regular each. Additional details can be had from www.ticketpro.in. RIB has a three hour weekend show ?“ Indigo and Blues hosted by Radha Thomas. Post the event, RIB plans to run clips of the performances during the event and interaction with some of the bands/groups on air, according to RIB national programming director Geoffrey G Thomas.

United Breweries brand Black Dog is the sponsor for the event for which the hospitality and venue partner is Jayamahal Palace Hotel.
