Radio City rolls out musical evening for associates

MUMBAI: Through a captivating live musical event, Radio City last night extended the essence of its popular retro classics show, Kal Bhi Aaj Bhi, to a hall-full of its business associates from amongst agencies, advertisers and other areas. And in association with retro-music-giant label Saregama, sent each one of its VIP guests home with a piece of its on-air show in the form of a double CD album, Kal Bhi Aaj Bhi Classics, that film star Randheer Kapoor unveiled along with Saregama MD Apurv Nagpal and Radio City CEO Apurva Purohit.

Industry stalwarts like Nitin Paranjpe, Sandeep Tarkas, Bhaskar Das, Govind Shrikhande, Shashi Sinha, K U Rao and Divya Radhakrishnan, among others, enjoyed the evening  hosted by Radio City CEO Apurva Purohit and emceed by RJ Gaurav who â€?owns' Kal Bhi Aaj Bhi on air. India's greatest Radio presenter Ameen Sayani sat through an enjoyable over-two-hours-long live show featuring some of the best evergreens sung initially by relatively unknown singers who were accompanied by top-notch musicians on the violin, saxophone, Spanish guitar, keyboards plus an extended percussion section that made it a memorable evening. However, the initial performances by singers Vinod, Samir and Deepali -- captivating and replete though they were with encore requests from the packed auditorium for the brilliant instrument solos and percussion set pieces – paled when Amit Kumar took the stage. With priceless mimicked anecdotes of his father Kishore Kumar, S D Burman, R D Burman, and Ashok Kumar, among other legends, and with his brilliant renditions of evergreens including Roop Tere Mastana and Roz Roz Aankhon Tale, Amit Kumar brought back memories of the days when the playback voices were great, the lyrics were meaningful, the music brilliant, and melody reigned supreme. For the business associates, it was a night of pure soulful pleasure, and most stayed on till the end. And never mind that it was only a Thursday night.
