MUMBAI: As the festive season approaches, Radio City is gearing up with innovative programming for its listeners. The station has initiated special segments for ‘Independence Day’ and ‘Eid’ in Delhi and Lucknow respectively.

In Delhi the station has planned special programme that will feature ‘real heroes’ from Kargil. RJ Addi, will spend 3-4 days with the soldiers in Kargil. RJ Addi will share his experience of being on the border live on-air, and special slots on 14-15 August will have song dedications by the soldiers. He will talk to the soldiers understanding the hardships they endure each day and in boost their morale. Other RJs will also connect with the soldiers’ families back home and listen to their side of the story.

Listeners can also send their good wishes to the soldiers through letters and cards which will be delivered to them by the station. The network is also taking special steps to collect messages from the listeners’ houses as well.

Commenting on the initiative, Radio City national programming head Kartik Kalla said, “Every Indian across the globe takes pride in our army. Meeting them this Independence Day is Radio City’s way of saying that ‘we care’. We have experimented with innovative and unique formats of programming, but this is something absolutely novel. All kinds of logistics problems notwithstanding, we are really proud to have made this possible. The huge number of listener messages pouring in is additional encouragement for us. Not only this, across the country we have also received a lot of messages and letters for our soldiers which we will be carrying for them.”

Besides, Lucknow station will celebrate the festival of ‘Eid’ with a unique on-ground activity titled ‘City Joyride’. The RJs have started touring various parts of the city, shooting out FM related questions. Correct answers ensure that one wins delightful special gifts or ‘eidee’. The winner testimonials will be played live on-air and will culminate on 18 August. ‘Eidees’ will be given out every evening in the last 12 days of Ramzan.
