Radio also saves lives

MUMBAI: Radio doesn't just entertain and enlighten, it also saves lives. Your friendly neighbourhood voice could amplify a cry for help, and, as My FM RJ Ankit discovered along with a distressed listener in Ahmedabad, save the life of a loved one.

RJ Ankit was hosting the My FM morning show Salam Ahmedabad at 7 am on Saturday when he received a call from a terribly stressed listener, Vinayak, pleading for help. He was in desperate need of five bottles of the rare blood group O-negative for a relative's surgery that was to start after an hour. When all other frantic attempts to arrange for the blood had failed, Vinayak called MY FM, and RJ Ankit took up his plea on top priority, urging listeners help immediately. Within 30 minutes of Ankit's appeal, eight persons got in touch with the hospital and donated blood; even a listener from Anand, a town some 90 kilometers from Ahmedabad, called, volunteering to help. Testimony to the power, reach, and emotional connect of Radio as a medium and, of course, the big-heartedness of the people of Ahmedabad, who surged selflessly to help Vinayak.

I am delighted to confirm that Vinayak's relative who underwent surgery on Saturday,  is recovering well,... Harrish M Bhatia, CEO 94.3 My FM, told RadioAndMusic.com, adding, Our listeners have always been of prime importance to us. We try to embed ourselves in their day-to-day lives, and have pledged to always be there as a constant source of support and strength to our listeners....
