Quincy Jones launches music education app

MUMBAI: Renowned composer and producer Quincy Jones has co-created the music version of Rosetta Stone. He has launched a new music application called Playground Sessions teaching users how to play the piano.

The app is stated to help children and adults learn how to read music and understand the mechanics of piano playing. It is co-created by Chris Vance, who got together with Jones more than a year ago after working alone on the application for three years.

Jones told a leading news agency, “There is ‘such a need for this’. The concept is brand-new. I have been praying for this for a long time. It has a learning concept similar to Rosetta Stone. I'm blown away by this.”

The musical app features real-time feedback and video tutorials from pianist David Sides, also comprising of around 70 popular songs including Katy Perry’s ‘Firework’, Frank Sinatra's ‘New York, New York’ and other tracks by singers like Beyonce and Justin Bieber.

Vance stated that Sides was the right choice when he was selecting a pianist for the project. David Sides is known for his popular piano covers on YouTube, including his rendition of One Republic's ‘Apologize’ which garnered over 10 million views.

In his long career, Jones has produced successful albums like Michael Jackson's ‘Thriller’ amongst others and now hopes that Playground Sessions will have an impact on music education programs in schools around the world. Amongst the first schools to start using the application is the Garfield High School in Seattle where Jones once studied.
