'Promoters should invest in building venues' says Neil Warnock

MUMBAI: One of the most significant points of discussion at the Nokia Music Connects Music Matters was the live music business in India, which has been facing challenges on multiple levels ranging from tax structures, corporate dependence and infrastructure. This, promoters believe is one of the reasons why Indian is not a part of the global touring scene.

Though getting in touch with an artiste has become easier today – thanks to the internet – but still, it's extremely difficult to explain to the international artistes that India is a �low fee market',... said E-18 CEO Farhad Wadia. In spite of having sponsors, the remuneration expected by the international bands remains unviable for the Indian promoters.

While multiple challenges lie in the international music front, the panelists were optimistic that local scene can be developed, Forget the big acts,... said Blue Frog co-founder Ashu Phatak, Bring the small acts down, develop opportunities for local bands, and rebuild entire live music scene,... he said.

Neil Warnock from The Agency, who was instrumental in bringing down acts like Roger Waters, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep and Micheal Jackson in the past suggested, There is a scene that exists, but that has to come from the promoters – investing money in venues is the only way its going to work,... he added.
