Producer retains Adeel's Kise Awaaz Doon in Jugaad

NEW DELHI: The song Kise Awaaz Doon' rendered by Lahore-based singer Adeel has been retained in the film Jugaad' as a song played in the background, rendering infructuous the legal notice sent by the Pakistani singer to the producers insisting that the song be shown in the film, failing which he would initiate civil and criminal proceedings.

However, sources close to the film's producer Sandiip Kapur told Radioandmusic.com that a separate video shot on the singer which had earlier been slated to be shown at the end of the film along with the credits had been scrapped. Kapur had said on Wednesday in an interview that he had not yet decided on whether to retain the song in the film.

Kapur had decided to scrap the song following public sentiment after the 26 November terrorist attacks in Mumbai. Kapur went on record to say that while he had spent a lot of money on the song and its picturisation and had nothing personal against the Lahore-based Adeel, he had to keep the people's emotions in mind

In his legal notice sent through a Delhi-based lawyer, Adeel who had sung the popular song Move your Body' in Kismet Konnection' also said that the producers of the film were obliged to promote him and his song following the agreement with him.

He said in the notice that not promoting him or his song and scrapping it from his film amounted to a breach of contract/agreement' and was a mala fide act.

In fact, some other films released after the November attacks in Mumbai - including Rohit Nayyar's Aasma – the sky is the limit' and Anil senior's Dil Kabaddi' and Billu' being released tomorrow, have carried songs sung by Pakistani singers.

Released this week, the film Jugaad' is based on the sealing drive by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi just over a year earlier. Shot at various locations in Delhi and Gurgaon, the film is said to be based partly on the real life story of its producer Sandiip Kapur. Starring Manoj Bajpai, Hrishita Bhatt, Vijay Raz, Sanjay Misra and debutant Nitin Arora, Jugaad' is the voice of struggle of a successful CEO who wants to survive and restart his life from a scratch after his office is wrongly sealed.

Jugaad' is directed by Aanand Kumar with music by Sachin Gupta.
