Pritam's 'Badtameez Dil' embroiled in plagiarism allegation

MUMBAI: Year after year, music composer Pritam has been facing various allegations of plagiarism for his musical work in different films. The latest allegation is on his hit track ‘Badtameez Dil' from the film ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ featuring Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone. According to reports, ‘Badtameez Dil’ is copy of a popular Bengali number titled ‘Ranjana Ami Aar Ashbona’.

The peppy track by Pritam has been rendered by Benny Dayal and Shefali Alvares. Speaking with Radioandmusic.com, Dayal said, “Everyone is enjoying the track which is the positive side of stuff; rather than looking at the negative side you should look at the positive side. The truth will be out at any point of time so there is no point of accusing someone. I am aware of the allegation on Pritam and heard all the tracks of the Bengali film. But I am not sure if it is a copy or not.”

Putting the negative publicity of the track behind, Dayal tries to highlight the way he enjoyed rendering the track.  “I really enjoyed singing this wacky track which is the most fun track I have ever sung. I rendered this song with my voice but with a different approach,” he said.

Veteran musician Lalit Pandit who has composed music for many popular films in the late 1990’s along with his brother Jatin Pandit, has also been involved in various controversies. Pandit said, “The people who work hard are usually alleged but that doesn’t mean one should not give up. Along with fame, you get little bad thing like this happening. The people who work more are accused the most. When we (Jatin-Lalit) worked more and give more hits we were in controversies like we have tiff with someone or other. It becomes part of life.”

He further added, “Controversies like these happen and it does upset the composer, and I am sure it will hurt Pritam also. If he has done it or not I cannot comment as people who have heard the song can comment better than me.”
