Pritam bags Apsara for Cocktail

MUMBAI: Cocktail has dominated all the award functions this year for its music. At the eighth Film and Television Producers Guild of India (Apsara) Awards, the film bagged The Best Music trophy for Pritam.

Veteran lyricist Gulzar bagged the Best Lyrics award for Saans from Jab Tak Hai Jaan, while debutant Ayushmann Khurrana won the Best Male Singer award for Paani da Rang from Vicky Donor. The Best Female Singer trophy was picked up by Shalmali Kholgade for Pareshan from Ishaqzaade.

The technical awards category saw Barfi and Kahaani bag two awards respectively. Debajit Changmai (Future Works Sound City) won the Best Sound Mixing award for Barfi, while the Best Sound Design category was a tie between Shanghai and Kahaani. Pritam Das & Sanjay Chaturvedi picked up the trophy for Shanghai and Sanjay Maurya & Allwin Rego for Kahaani.

Wizcraft Entertainment International Ltd director Sabbas Joseph said, “The awards night had an extravagant old-world baroque set coupled with lasers and special effects, creating a magical visual impact while envelopes were opened and the deserving stars were awarded for the best work of 2012. The Renault Star Guild Awards 2013 was an absolute success.”

Special awards were also bestowed upon eminent industry professionals including Manoj Kumar (Lifetime Achievement Award), Priyanka Chopra (Star Award for the Shining Star), Karan Johar (Guild Presidents Honour), Lata Mangeshkar (Special Awardee) and Abhishek & Aishwarya Rai Bachchan (Hindustan Times Outstanding Contribution to Society).

A special award was also given by the radio station Red FM to the popular Radio Song of the Year, which was picked up by the item track ‘Fevicol Se’ from Dabangg 2.

The night was hosted by Salman Khan who took to the podium as host for the first time, with Sonakshi Sinha accompanying him in some segments. It also featured performances by artistes like Ayushmann Khurrana and Kunaal Roy Kapur on ‘Dramebaaz’ and ‘Sadi Gali’ from their upcoming film Nautanki Saala, Jacqueline Fernandez on ‘Party on my mind’ and ‘Lat lag gayi’, Rhea Chakraborty and Saqib Saleem on ‘Punjabiyan di Battery’ from ‘Mere Dad Ki Maruti’, Anushka Sharma, Abhishek Bachchan and Arjun Kapoor amongst others.

The awards are presented by Renault and powered by Venus Soaps, with Star Plus as the official Broadcast partners. The event was held at Yash Raj Studios in Mumbai.
