Prasar Bharati to broadcast London 2012 Olympic Games

NEW DELHI: Public broadcaster Prasar Bharati has got the rights to broadcast London 2012 Olympic Games live in the country.

The Olympic Games to be held from 27 July to 12 August this year will be broadcast live by both Doordarshan and All India Radio.

Although ESPN Star Sports holds the telecast rights for the Indian subcontinent, Prasar Bharati had won the rights as a pool member of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) way back in 2008.

A Doordarshan source told Radioandmusic.com that the rights had been acquired at that time for both the winter Olympics held in Vancouver in Canada in 2010, and the summer Olympics (XXX Olympiad) being held next month.

A total sum of around $ 4 million was paid for the rights, sources said, adding that the marketing for the event will be done by Prasar Bharati for both AIR and DD.
