Pioneer of techno electronic music Mark Bell passes away

MUMBAI: According to a post on Warp Records' website, the founder of the techno music duo LFO, Mark Bell has passed away "from complications after an operation." In fact, Bell died early this month, though his label Warp Records only publicly announced the news on Monday, 13 October.

The official statement read, "It is with great sadness that we announce the untimely passing of Mark Bell of LFO who died last week from complications after an operation. Mark's family & friends request privacy at this difficult time." Warp Records has not given any further details on Bell's death.

Bell played a significant role in the musical success of BRIT Award and MTV Europe Music Award winner Björk. Right from producing her album 'Homogenic' in 1997 to being involved in her 1998 tour, and her 2007-2008 tour for her album 'Volta', Bell has been a strong pole of support for the Academy Award nominated singer. Bell also took on the sole production responsibility for Depeche Mode's album 'Exciter'.

Along with Gez Varley, Bell founded LFO in 1988. Bell is often referred to as the pioneer of house and techno music. In 1990, LFO's self-titled single, "LFO" was among the Top 20 on the British music charts.

Björk showed her condolences through her Facebook post earlier today. "I love you Mark and I feel so blessed to have made so much music with you. May your hypersensitive nature blossom fine and wherever you are at hope you have got good speakers," the post stated.
