NEW DELHI: Overcoming their physical barrier to nurture insatiable passion for music, a young group of visually challenged people, ‘Blind with Camera’, have shot a video of ‘Rangeele’, one of the songs from music maestro Kailash Kher’s Kailasa Records album Kailasa Rangeele.

The video was shot as part of a music video competition ‘Kathagaan’ announced by Kailasa Records to understand the myriad visual interpretations of the music of Rangeele.

Through this competition, fans have been invited to shoot a music video of any one of the three songs ‘Babbaji’, ‘UjaaleBannt Lo’ and ‘Katha Gaan’ from the album. The contest, which has got an overwhelming response, is still open for entries.

The group ‘Blind with Camera’ trains and champions visually impaired people to shoot pictures. Beyond Sight Foundation initiator and founder Partho Bhowmick said, “Blind With Camera demystifies the polarity between blindness and photography to show that diminished senses does not mean diminished life.” Expressing his elation in being a part of the contest, Partho said, “Let the visual interpretation of Rangeele be from people who understand colour differently.”

Opining on Blind with Camera’s participation in the contest, equal rights activist Harish Iyer said, “This is the first time that a music video is being shot by a group of visually challenged people. The thought is inspirational in itself. The fact that they have consented to participate in the general category with the sighted is a booster dose for the cause of humanity. They are sightless, not in-sightless.” Harish would be getting professionals to train the blind students about nuances of camera and help them in editing the project.

Besides the group, some students from Guru Nanak Khalsa College are also participating in the competition. These students are using footage of ‘making of’ shots of the video of Blind with Camera in their video. Talking about his experience during the competition, 19-year-old Khalsa college student Annujj Palaye said, “It’s a transformational journey for me, I realize there is no me and them (the blindstudents) – there is only ‘US’. Winning or losing is a different thing, the experience is enriching. If I win, I will share a part of my winning sum with an organization that caters to the visually challenged.”

Responding to the love and response that Kailasa Records and Kailash Kher is receiving from his fans, Kher said, “This is a music video that is fuelling new
