Pankaj Udhas pays tribute to Jagjit Singh

MUMBAI: In a rare mingling of social work and homage, renowned ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas joined marginalized children to pay tribute to the late ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh.

Udhas crooned some ghazals from the albums of Jagjit Singh and a few of his own from Hindi films. Actor-producer Abhinav Chaturvedi presented the programme.

Prayas', a non-governmental organization headed by actor and Parliamentarian Shatrughan Sinha had organized the event. Jagjit Singh had been president of Prayas, which works for the welfare of poor children, for many years.

Sinha said Jagjit Singh is no more with us but his immortal voice will always resound in our homes and hearts for all times to come. The versatile renditions of Jagjit will keep moving the deepest corners of our emotions and thoughts everywhere. Jagjit was a remarkable human being, a man admired across the globe. He associated himself with thousands of individuals and organizations serving noble causes to help the poor and downtrodden.'
