MUMBAI: Collaboration is the new word. While A R Rahman has teamed up with rapper Akon and will soon be featuring in his chroma corrected video (for a few seconds), singer Tanvi Shah – a part of Slumdog Millionaire's team Oscar glory has collaborated with rapper Snoop Dogg.

According to news reports, after the Oscar glory, Tanvi, who has also rendered her vocals for the Jai Ho track, received a few offers from Western pop artistes, and this included an offer from rapper Snoop Dogg, seen last year in the Akshay Kumar starrer Singh is Kingg.

Eventually, she has collaborated with Snoop Dogg to make Snoop Dogg Millionaire' produced by Wild Animals and Chase & Status. Needless to say, the score is an cheap attempt by Snoop Dogg to cash on Slum Dogg Milionaire's success.

Rap or crap?

A quick search on youtube will show Snoop Dogg's latest offering featuring Tanvi Shah  The song is biographical in nature and speaks about Snoop Dogg's hardships and eventual success in the music scene. The lyrics (both Snoop's and Shah's) are mediocre and predictable. With lines like, "Kahan se aaya ... aur kya ban gaya .. ye kahani hain, snoop dogg millionaire"... you shake your head in disgust.

For the track, Tanvi experiments with archetypecal 80's Bollywood sound, but that doesn't work well, to add, with the chorus like 'Yeah Just don't care , I became a Snoop Dogg Millionaire' one wonders if there are many who will give this a second ear at all.

Apparently, Snoop Dogg's attempt on this track has not gone down too well with his fans. For many, this collaboration just doesn't make sense. "This song is a joke. Listen to eastern jam on its own, listen to Snoop on his own. This collabration makes no sense and smacks of Snoop capitalising on dubsteps rising popularity (props to him for having the taste to recognize it, but it doesnt make it any less lazy or commercial.) Enjoy your latest million dollars, Snoop," writes a fan.

The Oscar winning Danny Boyle film Slumdog Millionaire has surely opened doors for the east- west collaborations, but it goes without saying - artistes from east and west still need to watch their steps. No jumping!
