Nimbuzz becomes first Indian internet company to cross 100mn users

MUMBAI: Indian internet company Nimbuzz has announced its entry into the league of the top 20 most reached internet companies in the mobile and web communications space by crossing the 100 million user landmark. It is the first India-headquartered company to cross the mark.

The company states that it managed to achieve the feat because of the traffic driven by its offering on bringing voice, video, data sharing and social chat on a single platform.

Nimbuzz CEO Vikas Saxena said, “Families and friends are attempting to communicate with each other through mobile devices around the world, but many operating systems and communication platforms require the use of large amounts of expensive data. Nimbuzz bridges this gap by providing a single platform, at low-to-no cost, across any device in any form of voice, video, file sharing and more. We are powering a global network of connected mobile users.”

Launched in Netherlands in 2006, Nimbuzz enables free video and voice calling between users, while reducing the cost of calls to landline and mobile phones. It enables communication across major platforms including MSN, GTalk, Yahoo and social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, mobile platforms like iOS, Android, Symbian, Windows Phone, BlackBerry and J2ME as well as Windows, Mac and Web. The company relocated its headquarters to India in 2012.

With more than 100 million users in 80 countries like Middle East (30mn), India (17mn), South Asia (14mn), Africa (13mn), Europe (10mn) and USA (6.5mn), the company claims to have a record of 100 per cent year-over-year growth.
