NFDC to release works of Tagore on 7 May

MUMBAI: The National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) will release a commemorative DVD titled Tagore Stories and Film, a compilation of five classic writings of poet Rabindranath Tagore on 7 May.

The collection will have national award-winning film Khudito Pashan (Hungry Stones) by Tapan Sinha and Teen Kanya (Three Daughters) by Satyajit Ray. It will also include Ghare Bhaire , Char Adhyay and Kabuliwala.

A rare compilation of five classic stories written by Tagore and filmed by different directors, the DVD also has two documentaries based on his life as bonus features.
The documentaries are on the silent film Natir Puja (the only film directed by Tagore) and a Satyajit Ray film.

It may be remembered that the national committee for the commemoration of the 150th birth anniversary of Tagore, along with the culture and information and broadcasting ministries, commissioned the NFDC to bring out a DVD of all of Tagore's cinema-related work after which a steering committee headed by director Shyam Benegal was formed to work on the DVD and on the selection of films.
