New album, film project keep Akshay Hariharan busy

MUMBAI: Upcoming musician is a busy man. He is currently putting the finishing touches of his upcoming album which will fuse electronic dance music (EDM) with Indian sounds. He has also completed his first project as a music director for a Hindi film ‘Black Home’ directed by Ashish Deo, also expected to be released

He made his debut as a film music director with Marathi film ‘Kokanastha’ directed by Mahesh Manjrekar.

The album (Universal) is yet untitled will be released in the UK in July-August. The six tracks will introduce a new genre-‘Indian Electronica’- which has Indian classical and traditional sounds with EDM.

“The album will have international sound and have Trance, Psy-Trance and House, basically European EDM vibe- mixed with Indian music. Our parent label is Universal but we expect more electronic music labels in the UK to pick it up,” Hariharan told Radioandmusic.com.

The prolific musician who can play the guitar, piano and music production added that his experience as a music director for Black Home was ‘fantastic’ with director Deo giving him a ‘lot of freedom’ to work on the three tracks of the film.

“The film is about a remand home and the kids living there. It’s not a happy film, its dark. It was a fantastic experience,” Hariharan said.

With both projects to be unveiled to public close together, Hariharan Jr’s packed schedule will not allow him to join his illustrious father musician-singer-composer Hariharan on his north America-Canada ‘Soul Tour’- an event where he cut his teeth as a musician.
