Myopusradio adds 12 new channels

MUMBAI: Internet radio station myopusradio is set to expand its horizon and will soon launch 12 new channels which will on air in the first week of May.

The station at present offers 19 channels for listeners. It recently stated a 80's only music channel on its portal which will air International hits from the decade of 80's

Talking about the genre of music that these 12 new channels would air myopusradio division head Sharmon Ibrahim says, "Some of these channels cover new sub-genres of music and some of them are extreme versions of existing channels. This micro caters to people's listening habits and provides more options and hence the experience is even more so personalized. We take into account the subtleties of music programming, we don't go at it with a sledgehammer."

The station doesnt want to stick to any specific group as its audience. Says Ibrahim, "In the conventional meaning, we don't have a target audience. That is to say, we do not target anyone. We are what we are, and hence are true to what we believe in and thus we seem to attract a certain type of listener, I guess you could say there is a common wavelength that our listeners share, whether this is bound by music, talk or ideology I can't really say. Our listeners are usually productive, young minded people in the realm of advertising they are considered the cream and ideal listener."

The radio portal is also planning to plug in advertisers for the station though "our priority will be the music and content," says Ibrahim. "Advertising, sponsorship on Myopus radio will never be so intrusive that it disturbs our listener, this would only turn people off thereby defeating the purpose entirely." The station is also holding several tie-ups with with companies and events for ground events. Currently, it is in talks with a couple of pub fests, colleges as well as music festivals including The Ladakh Confluence.

Talking about the station's content source Ibrahim adds, "We have a dedicated team that creates content. Apart from that, we don't adhere to so-called standard format content..., we are open to all types of content. Preferably it should be fresh and something new for our listeners. A lot of people write in to us asking if they can do shows for us. We are totally open to this, especially when it is something different. There's no fun doing the same thing time and time again, rather than just change the packaging, we like it if the product is also something new."

The station which started its operation in is yet to achieve its break-even. Myopusradio proprietor Carlton Braganza says, "This was an investment phase where we've really perfected the product offering. We have a lot of interested clients and its just a matter of time that something clicks. We are looking forward to the mobile 3G revolution which is about to hit and intend to be ready to ride the wave then, cause it would open a whole new world of opportunities.
