My FM collaborates with Universal for music CDs

MUMBAI: After Kolkata based Friends FM launched its CDs in Kolkata earlier this year, Synergy Media's My FM has joined the music bandwagon by launching its music CDs in collaboration with Universal music. Named after its most popular night show Chaandni raatein', the album will be available in stores all over India.

The popular night show hosted across seven states - Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra through My FM's 17 stations is a musical tribute to the golden classics of Bollywood.

The CD contains 12 songs, most often requested by listeners on My FM's show Chaandani Raatein'. The popular numbers include Dil Kya Karey Jab Kissi ko Kissi Se Pyaar ho Jaaye, Wada Karo Nahin Chodoge Tum Mera Saath, Thoda Hai Thode ki Zaroorat Hai, Tujhse Naaraz Nahin Zindaghi Hairaan Hoon Mein'.

Talking about the launch, My FM national head brand Ritu Chhabra said, We are not starting a music label. It is just an extension of our radio brand. We have very loyal listeners of our night show so, we have compiled the most popular songs requested for our listeners....

By releasing the CDs all over the Indian market, the FM stations intends to increase its visibility all over the country. The royalties of the songs and the other legal aspects of the recording of the songs are being taken care of by Universal, says Chhabra.

As a part of the marketing and advertising activity, the CDs are being promoted and advertised extensively on the radio station. The CDs are also being given away as gift vouchers for participants in the station's contests.

The station plans similar albums, depending on the audience response. Elaborating on the concept, Synergy Media Entertainment COO Harrish M Bhatia said,... It is an humble but concrete step by MY FM and I am confident that we shall move forward and create many more milestones in the field of entertainment. It shall help in establishing our brand at a wider scale and also garner new listenership....

Tomar Aakash Tomar Batash by Friends FM was the first album ever launched by  a radio station in India in 2007. The three CD pack had recorded shows hosted on the radio station. Lately, they launched Anandagan volume 1 which was a compilation of modern Bengali songs. The station has received a good response on the first volume and very soon will launch the second volume of the album.
