MUMBAI: MTV’s O Music Awards, which is in its third iteration will kick off tomorrow and conclude on 28 June.

American alternative rock band The Flaming Lips will host the awards and will try to break the Guinness World Record by performing in eight cities in a period of 24 hours. The awards with 24 categories including ‘Must Follow Artist on Twitter’, ‘Best Music Hack’, and ‘Digital Genius’ will take place in the form of a cross-country road-trip. The Flaming Lips will be joined by New Fumes, Grace Potter and The Nocturnals, Neon Trees and local musicians.

MTV will live-stream the whole event online.

The first iteration of O Music Awards (where O stands for Offbeat, Outrageous, and Online) took place in April 2011. The awards honour artists, fans and innovators who drive and change digital music.
