Modern Mafia to release four tracks in four months

MUMBAI: Since playing for bilingual film 'David' last year, alt-rock band Modern Mafia has not made music for films or even created their own music. But after a long gap of almost two years, the band launched a new single 'Gunslinger', and is now working on a music video for the same.

The Mumbai-based band is not going to stop at just that single, but will release one single a month for the next four months. The four member band consists of Varun Das (Lead Vocals + Guitars), Jason D'souza (Lead Guitars + Vocals), Krehl Gonsalves (Bass + Vocals), and Karun Kannampilly (Drums). Das told Radioandmusic.com, "We have been relatively quiet in the past two years, so we decided to finally come out with some of our own music. At the same time, we realised that people do not enjoy albums because they do not have the time to listen to whole albums. This is why, we decided to release singles instead of an album."

The first single was inspired by Jessie James and the next single which will be released at end of September is based around Star Wars and is titled as 'Chewbacca's Revenge'. Then there will be a track inspired by X-men called 'Jean Grey', and two others which again will be based around the popular TV characters. Das said, "Our tracks will be different but will belong to the same genre of music. The singles are inspired by the pop-culture which inspired us when we were growing up. Many will relate to the tracks that we are launching at some point of time. The tracks will portray the space and time we belong to."

'Gunslinger', the first single is available on their website for free download. The band will promote the songs online and will wait till all the singles are out, after which they will think about other ways to push their tracks among the music lovers.

When asked if they plan to approach any label, Das informed, "We have sent out our tracks to various label companies and are waiting for responses from them." The band is in talks for a few projects and recently, it had played at the promotional gig of 'The New Wave MusicFest'.

After 'David', the band has not played or composed music for any other film, but they are open to it, only if film-makers need "crazy music" like they did for 'David'.
